Renowned Nigerian recording artiste and social activist, Seun Kuti, has sparked intense reactions online after delivering a fiery response to critics questioning his relevance and legacy as the son of late music icon, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
Speaking in a viral outburst, Seun mocked those who dismiss his achievements, revealing that he once received $120,000 in inheritance nearly three decades after his father’s death, a moment he used to underline what he described as “true accomplishment.”

“I just collected 120,000 US dollars based on my papa’s name. Not my work. Just because I am Fela’s child,” Seun said, stressing that Fela died 29 years ago. “How many of una father fit send una money from the grave 29 years later?”
The outspoken musician argued that many of his critics cannot understand the weight of coming from a family that achieved lasting greatness, insisting that wealth alone does not equal legacy.

“You don’t know what it means to be the child of somebody who accomplished something, because your fathers never accomplished anything,” he said, drawing a sharp line between what he called “true greatness” and families built on theft rather than impact.
Seun further maintained that his comments were not about money but about enduring influence, adding that moral and cultural legacy outlives material possessions.
The comments have since ignited massive debate on social media, with supporters praising his unapologetic defence of Fela’s legacy, while critics accuse him of arrogance and disrespect.
