Nasty C Debuts Acting Career In New Netflix TV Series

Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, South African rapper better known as Nasty C has made his acting debut in a new Netflix African series, titled Blood and Water.

Directed by Nosipho Dumisa, Blood and Water follows the adventures of Puleng Khumalo (Ama Qamata), who transfers to the same high school as a girl she suspects is her sister who was abducted at birth. The Netflix African original series debuts on May 20 on the streaming platform.

Describing the casting processDumisa said:

Blood & Water presented us with the opportunity to bring a mixture of fresh new faces alongside seasoned actors. After seeing hundreds of actors and newcomers from both Cape Town and Johannesburg; we’re excited to be a part of opening up the industry.’

Nasty C invades the US

Nasty C‘s latest adventure into the film industry comes on the heels of his exclusive deal with American record label; Def Jam Recordings through a joint venture with Universal Music Africa. 

In a terse post on Instagram, the rapper relished featuring in the much-anticipated series.

My debut acting role! Catch me in the upcoming Netflix second original African series, Blood & Water premiering May 20th,” he wrote.

Nasty C’s music career

The rapper began his career in 2012 with the release of his first mixtape, One Kid, A Thousand Coffins. Second mixtape Price City and debut album Bad Hair, released in 2014 and 2016, respectively. Since then, Nasty C has won several music awards including the South African Hip-Hop Awards’ Best Freshman prize and four Metro FM Music Awards, as well as being nominated in 2019 for a BET Hip-Hop Award in the best international flow category and an MTV Europe Music Award.

Strings and Bling, featuring the multi-platinum singles “King,” “Jungle” and “SMA” and the platinum title track, earned two South African Music Awards and two All African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMAs). A Forbes “Africa Under 30” and GQ Musician of the Year honoree, Nasty C also has brand endorsement affiliations with Puma, Red Bull and Mercedes.
