Netflix announce ‘King of Boys 2’ release date

An official release date for the long awaited sequel to Kemi Adetiba’s 2018 blockbuster, King of Boys is here.

Netflix has confirmed that the sequel will drop on August 27, 2021. The streaming giant also confirmed that unlike it’s 2018 predecessor, the sequel would be a seven-episode series. The sequel will be titled ‘King of Boys: The Return of the King

The Return of The King picks off with Eniola’s triumphant comeback after a five-year exile. Sola Sobowale and Toni Tones would reprise their roles as Eniola Salami. Other cast members like Reminisce (Makanaki), Ill Bliss (Odogwu), Akin Lewis (Aare Akinwande), Osas Ighodaro (Sade Bello), Titi Kuti (Ade Tiger) and, Keppy Ekpeyoung (Mumusa) also return from the first movie.

New additions like Nse Ikpe Etim (First Lady Jumoke Randle), Richard Mofe Damijo ‘RMD’ (Reverend Ifeanyi), Efa Iwara (Dapo Banjo), Deyemi Okanlawon (Adetola Fashina), Charly Boy (Odudubariba) and Lord Frank (Governor Tunde Randle) join the already star studded cast.

King of Boys

Director and producer, Kemi Adetiba said in a statement,

“When I decided to tell the King of Boys story, I never imagined it would take on a life of its own in the way it has. It’s been such an exciting ride from its introduction in 2018 to the Nigerian audience, and their reception was so incredible that the fans have been clamoring for more. I’m so honored that today, I get to share the world of Eniola Salami and King of Boys 2: The Return of the King to a global audience, but this time with the massive backing of Netflix. Continuing the King of Boys journey with Netflix is a big deal for me. Especially as this time, it will be served to the world as a limited 7-part series”.

She also announced the movie as a seven part series on Instagram

About the movie

King of Boys tells the story of Alhaja Eniola Salami. She’s a businesswoman and philanthropist with a promising political future. On the side, she also has to contend with a power struggle which threatens everything around her.
