Coronavirus: Netflix Naija Original Series Halted

Netflix has paused production of its ‘Netflix Naija’ original series as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.

The highly anticipated series is the first major scripted series to be halted in Nigeria.

Directed by Akin Omotoso; who also directed The Ghost and The House of Truth, the series is meant to debut in December.

Netflix’s directives to suspend production was announced to cast and crew on March 15, 2020. Following the US streamer’s suspension of ongoing productions across the US and Canada.

According to reports, the Akin Omotoso directed series is being suspended indefinitely; in order to help curb the spread of the virus and encourage social distancing.

Joining the Netflix Original series cast and crew are co-directors C.J. Obasi and Daniel Oriahi. Kemi Lala-Akindoju will be co-producing. In addition to that, Kate Henshaw, Joke Silva, Bimbo Akintola, Richard Mofe Damijo and others make up a huge part of the production’s ensemble cast.

Netflix Naija series is set in contemporary Nigeria and shot in Lagos. It tells the story of Kemi, a goddess reincarnated as a human to avenge her sister’s death. But first, she must learn how to use and harness her superpowers to defeat her enemies and save her family from destruction.

The Nigerian government recently recorded 10 fresh cases of the coronavirus outbreak; bringing the total number of positive cases to 22.
