Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has marked a major milestone in his career.
On July 27, 2026, the “Mayor of Lagos” took to social media to celebrate 10 years in the music industry, sharing stylish new photos.
The Afrobeats star, who ditched his signature dreadlocks captioned the post: “10 years! 1 Mayor 🤞🏾🔥.” Fans flooded the comments with praise for his works as many expressed excitement for a new music.
Mayorkun’s journey began in 2016 when Davido discovered his cover of “The Money” on Twitter and signed him to DMW. His debut single “Eleko” became an instant hit, earning him Rookie of the Year at The Headies. He released his debut album The Mayor of Lagos in 2018, which peaked at number 15 on Billboard’s World Music chart and won Best R&B/Pop Album.
After parting ways with DMW in 2021, Mayorkun joined Sony Music West Africa and dropped his second album Back in Office.

Known for hits like “Geng,” “Mama,” and collaborations with top artists, he has built a reputation for catchy, feel-good Afrobeats and Afro-pop. Before music, the University of Lagos graduate worked as a banker, a path he left behind for his passion.
The celebration highlights a decade of growth, from viral covers to headlining concerts and international recognition.
