Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale, the mother of Nigerian singer Mayorkun has reflected on the life-changing moment that launched her son’s music career, revealing how a simple cover video posted online opened the door to his breakthrough in the entertainment industry.
Speaking during an appearance on the Talk with B podcast, she recounted how the family had no idea that Mayorkun’s decision to record and share a cover of one of Davido’s songs would eventually change his life.

She said: “There is nothing God cannot do. We weren’t expecting it. He just left for his cousin’s place at Lekki, and when he got there, he went to the music room and was playing Davido’s song and posted it on the internet.
She continued: “Before you know it, it went viral. He did a cover for ‘Money’ and posted it on Instagram, and it got to Davido”.
According to the actress, the family was initially doubtful when Davido reached out to the aspiring singer after seeing the video.

Like many people would, they feared the message could be a scam and were hesitant to believe that the Afrobeats superstar had genuinely contacted him.

However, Mayorkun’s brother, Ayobami, was convinced that the message was authentic and encouraged the family to take it seriously.
She said: “At first, they were like, ‘Is it him or not?’ But the moment they recognised his voice, they jumped in excitement.
She added: “Davido told him he liked the song and asked for his measurements. Before we knew it, he sent him a whole box of gifts”.
She explained that not long afterwards, Davido invited Mayorkun to work with him in the studio.
Their collaboration eventually produced Eleko, the hit single that introduced Mayorkun to a wider audience and marked the beginning of his rise in the music industry.
The proud mother recalled how quickly her son’s life changed following the success of the song.
