Nigerian gospel singer Asu Ekiye has taken to social media to announce that his 28-year marriage to Kunemofa has ended.
On Thursday, the Bayelsa-born singer, also known as the ‘Prince of the Niger Delta’, shared on Facebook that the marriage ended a year ago. He said he waited to announce it until he had reached “quiet acceptance”.
He described the marriage as a personal journey filled with growth, experience, and reflection.

“After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to Kunemofa Asu has come to an end,” he wrote.
“Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end.
“I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude and dignity, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season.”
He also disclosed that the marriage ended a year ago and that he had taken time to make the announcement after “quiet acceptance”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago,” he wrote.
“I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves.”
Ekiye is known for songs including “Woekilemo”, “Inua Jesu”, “Eniye”, “Miyebibo” and “Kareyo”.
