A straightforward piece of relationship advice from a Nigerian woman has gone viral on social media, igniting fierce discussions about trust, finances, and red flags in modern marriages.
In a widely shared video circulating the internet, the lady delivering a blunt warning to her gender said: “Never marry a man that has his assets in his mother’s name. Make sure you do your research before you marry him.”

The lady urged women to conduct thorough background checks on a potential husband’s wealth while suggesting that when major assets such as houses, cars, land, or investments, are registered under a man’s mother’s name rather than his own, it could indicate premeditated protection against future divorce claims.
This advice however, did not sit well with the opposite gender and it was greeted with mixed reactions from both genders. Here are some reactions to the clip:
One commenter noted, “How can a man you share your life with put all his assets in his mother’s name? Does he not have plans for his future family?”
Defending the practice, some argued that it protects pre-marital or family-earned wealth.
One user asked; “Did he know you before he put his assets in his mother’s name? Why are you even concerned about the assets?”
Another user said; “Why not go into the marriage as an established woman so you don’t have to think of his assets?”
Countering the advice, another user dropped a suggestion saying; “Put yours in your father’s name then, focusing on a man’s wealth reveals ulterior motives.”
