Nigerians and Kenyans War Over Lupita Nyong’o’s Feature In “Americanah”

Many may be wondering the reason for the ongoing “African war” on Twitter (other than xenophobia), as Kenyans and Nigerians exchange words on the mini-blogging platform.

Well, the recent news about Lupita Nyong’o’s feature in the movie adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “Americanah”, seems to have angered Nigerians as many question “why a Kenyan would play the role of an Igbo woman”.

Lupita was chosen for the role by American movie giant Warner Media Entertainment and the news spread recently on Twitter amidst jubilation by Kenyans who seem to be “proud of their girl”.

Some Nigerians however, were disgusted by the jubilation and reacted to the news.

According to them, a Nollywood actress would have been natural at speaking the indigenous language instead of teaching a non-Nigerian from the scratch.

Kenyans were however quick to troll Nigerians, referring to sometime last Month when Beyonce left Kenyans out of “The Gift” album.
