Nigeria’s music industry has produced many iconic groups, but few have left as enduring an imprint as Plantashun Boiz.

Often described as one of the country’s hottest boy bands of their era, the trio played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of modern Afrobeats and introducing Nigerian pop music to wider international audiences.

2Baba

Formed in the late 1990s, Plantashun Boiz originally comprised 2Face Idibia (now known as 2Baba), Blackface Naija, and Faze. The group quickly gained attention for their smooth harmonies, socially conscious lyrics, and ability to blend R&B with local Nigerian rhythms. Their debut album, Body and Soul, released in 2000, produced several popular tracks that dominated airwaves and established them as household names.

Despite their growing fame, internal disagreements eventually led to the group’s split in 2004, allowing each member to pursue solo careers. 2Baba went on to become one of Africa’s most celebrated musicians, while Blackface and Faze also carved out individual paths in the industry, releasing music and maintaining loyal fan bases.
