Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold has expressed concern about the state of democracy in Nigeria, arguing that the country is yet to fully practise the principles expected of a democratic society.
The singer made his position known during a recent episode of the One54 Podcast, where he discussed his colleague Davido’s decision to appeal to United States President Donald Trump over the political situation surrounding the recently held Osun State governorship election.
Adekunle Gold suggested that Davido’s decision to draw Trump’s attention to the election was influenced by his own concerns about how democracy is being practised in Nigeria.
According to the singer, the country’s political system does not currently reflect what a true democratic society should look like.
The father to Deja and husband to Simi also expressed hope that the administration of President Bola Tinubu would perform better than the previous government, particularly in the areas of governance and respect for democratic principles.

He said: “I think Davido sent that message to Donald Trump because we are not truly practising democracy in Nigeria.
He added: “We are not doing what a democratic society should do. I just hope this administration does better than the previous one.”
However, his comments came after Davido had previously attracted attention after calling on President Trump to pay attention to the political situation in Osun State.
