Alex ‘Unusual’ Asogwa, the ex-Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) housemate, has called out the Lagos State government over the recent arrest of seventy-four persons including homeless people by men of the Environmental Taskforce.
Recall that the State Commission for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab on Monday shared a video showing the arrests of some persons including an elderly man who takes shelter under one of the bridges.
Wahab mentioned that they will be arraigned in court soon. He wrote, “Earlier today at about 1a.m, Tuesday, 6th May, 2025 the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce team embarked on its usual clean up enforcement operation around Lekki axis in Lagos Island.
“The areas visited during the operation includes; Falomo bridge, Eko Hotel roundabout, Oniru Beach, Law School, Lekki Phase 1&2 and 1004 areas where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.
“During the raid exercise, a total number of 74 individuals were arrested; 72 male and 2 female, and sanity was restored in all the areas. All the Suspects will be charged to court accordingly.”
Reacting, the BBNaija star via her Instagram stories on Tuesday expressed concern over the arrest, as she questioned the Lagos State government on if ‘not having a house is a crime.’
She further pointed out the irony of arresting people for simply having nowhere to stay, while others with homes still contribute to environmental mess by littering public spaces.
She wrote:”Can someone please educate me on/explain to me why Lagos state is arresting homeless people? I am confused, so before it saddens me or ruins my day. I need to understand. Infact, it has already ruined my day. What is the crime? Not having a house? Because even people with houses litter the environment once they step out as well. I see people throwing stuffs from their cars. Why are homeless people sleeping in concerns being arrested.”
“This is my reason for asking, holding their trousers with no criminal charges, slapping them up from sleep, dismantling their sleeping areas without giving them time to carry their hard earned possessions!! Am I missing something here.”
