Today is October 1st, Nigeria turns 65. Though the nation is a year older, it is the same old tale of anger, agony, and pandemonium; there has been no worthwhile economic progress in the last decade.

There is no peace in the northern part of Nigeria, there’s fierce tribal war looming in the south, and a gross impecuniousness from the myopic leaders of the country.

Nigeria, a nation of over 200 million, is still being described as a developing country in this age, despite possessing several impeccable qualities and natural resources; the most populous black nation has every characteristic to become a mainstay on the global stage; however, they have continued to stray from essence and excellence due to charlatans in power.

A nation marred by bribery and corruption and a lack of vision from the leaders, the nation keeps regressing without any ideal objective to transform the struggles of the common people. Nigeria is a blessed nation, indeed. God has bestowed upon us human resources; however, we lack managerial skills to think constructively about how to achieve economic growth through togetherness and unity.

The leaders have no cohesive plan to create a better tomorrow for the burgeoning generation- a leader without vision can only lead the wards astray. As Nigeria clocks 65, it is apparent that the nation is further falling away, and it is predominantly due to fickle issues developed by the shambolic games of those in power.

On October 1st, there is nothing to celebrate. Not in the economy, sports, or the entertainment department, which has been void of top-notch content in recent years.

The hardship in the country has drained every form of fun out of the system of the average Nigerian. The prices of common commodities have skyrocketed; hence, the common man cannot even afford them. So, what’s Independence Day about if the Nigerian citizen is still bound by funds?

Further, most Nigerian youths no longer see the value in education. This is as a result of the high unemployment and underemployment rate in Nigeria; also, the last five years have since an intense wave of brain drain across various sectors in the country.

The Nigerian government has failed to invest in technological and educational advancement in the country. Instead, the money-grubbing politicians only use public funds to spend holidays in Ibiza and squander the entirety of taxpayers’ money on vain Nollywood actresses and social media influencers who travel to Turkey to undergo Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) and cosmetic surgeries to stunt on other Nigerians via Instagram. It’s a vicious cycle, and the callousness of these leaders is derailing the well-being of the citizens of Nigeria.

Nigerian politicians ought to invest in worthwhile sectors that would ease the affairs of the citizens of the country. They should invest in transportation, education, Agriculture, security, healthcare, and other basic amenities, and simply take care of the people.

On October 1st, the average Nigerian person doesn’t have light in their home, and to acquire fuel, they’ll need to pay through their nostrils. An unfair system designed to ruin the financial potency of the common person.

This is not right, the Nigerian government should do better and stay away from publishing abstract reports on how the ‘economy’ is booming.
