Olisa Adibua Set To Co-produce “3some” Play

Seasoned broadcaster and talk show host, Olisa Adibua is set to co-produce 3some play with Joseph Edgar. Written by Jude Idada, the play is the third theatre production that Adibua had co-produced in two years. Isale Eko and Oba Esugbayi are historical stories told through music, drama and dance which he had co-produced.

3some is a psycho-erotic play which is rated 18. The play tells the story of a troubled couple who had to separate due to sexual incompatibility. The bride’s mother intervened in a controversial manner, offering practical example to her son-in-law on how to please a woman.

Adibua whose first love is theatre has veered into radio and television presentations for over three decades, promoting music and culture. He had participated in some theatre productions on his arrival in Nigeria from UK where he had spent his formative years.

“Theatre for me is the ‘realest’ and ‘rawest’ form of entertainment,” said Adibua recently. He described the actor-audience relationship on stage as “instant karma”. One of the reasons why 3some stirred controversy and debates was the use of graphic scenes of sexual simulation. Relying heavily on the audience’s imagination, the script has been carefully designed to arouse erotic mental pictures while the scantily-dressed actress mimes squirts and orgasmic reactions to the words.

During the sexually charged scenes, the auditorium is usually thrown into darkness, allowing the audience to be completely immersed in the live action on stage.

Adibua is hopeful that corporate sponsors will emerge for this show slated for June at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

Speaking on why it is very important to tell the story of sexual relations in marriage and relationships through this play, Adibua explained that theatre should be reflective of the real contemporary issues in the society.

“The world has changed and things have moved on. We can’t be living in the wrong century. We have to bring people to this century and to say this is what is going on right now,” he explained.

Although Adibua didn’t reveal the actual budget for the play, he promised that there will be twists to the play to make it edgy. The play was performed in Lagos last year at Freedom Park, Broad street during the Lagos Theatre Festival organised by the British Council, Lagos and was completely sold out throughout the days that it was performed.
