Ozoro Community: Delta State Police Launch Investigation into Barbaric Incident

The Delta State Police Command has strongly condemned the disturbing incident that happened in Ozoro community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State and described it as “barbaric,” ordering a full investigation into the matter.

In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Aina Adesola, described the act as alarming, disgusting, and embarrassing. The CP has directed immediate probes to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“The command condemns this in totality,” the statement read. “No custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens.”

CP Aina Adesola urged residents of Delta State to remain calm, assuring them that the perpetrators of this barbaric act would be arrested and brought to justice swiftly.

The police also appealed to members of the public, particularly eyewitnesses, to come forward with any useful information that could assist the ongoing investigation.

The incident, which sparked widespread outrage after circulating online showed how men in large numbers, run after women and assault them in public space. The act which the described as “rape festival”, as claimed by them is in spirit of celebration. During the festival, women are prohibited from coming out and any lady found outside is molested.

It is said that many ladies who are not from the State were not aware of the said culture as report states that the Delta State University is also in Ozoro community and there are fears that lots of the institution’s female students may have fallen victims of the barbaric act.

The police emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated under any guise.

The command reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the fundamental rights of all residents.
