Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, has defended his controversial response to activist Rinu Oduala (Savvy Rinu) amid backlash over a sexually suggestive remark he made on X.
The controversy erupted when Rinu criticised Edafe’s handling of past actions, posting something along the lines of questioning his responsiveness and calling him “Bright wey no bright.”
In reply, Edafe wrote: “Whenever I issue a statement, it turns you on. Why if I may ask?”
The comment drew immediate condemnation for unprofessional conduct from a police spokesperson. Rinu responded sharply, accusing him of harbouring sexual thoughts while she demanded action on a serious case.

In the ensuing backlash, Edafe reportedly claimed that Rinu had sexualised his comment, flipping the narrative to suggest her interpretation was inappropriate.
The exchange stemmed from viral videos showing women being chased, stripped, and allegedly molested during a festival in Ozoro community, Isoko South Local Government Area, on Thursday, March 19, 2026. Described by some as a “r@ping festival,” the incident sparked nationwide outrage over the barbaric assaults.
Edafe initially issued an official statement condemning the acts, declaring that “no custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens” and assuring that those responsible would be arrested and brought to justice. The Delta State Police Command later confirmed arrests, including the community head, Chief Omorede Sunday, and several others from Oramudu quarters.
