Pete Edochie Receives African Film Legend Award at TAFF
Pete Edochie, Nigerian veteran actor has been honoured with the African Film Legend award at the just concluded African Film Festival, TAFF.
The festival, which ran from June 2, through June 6, in Dallas, United States of America, was screened live online, making it it’s first ever virtual award.
Although Edochie was not in attendance, he was presented with the TAFF 2020 Living Legends Award certificate at his residence in Enugu by actress Patience Ozokwo (Mama G).
It was gathered that Kelechi Eke, the festival founder and film maker would personally deliver Edochie’s trophy after the coronavirus pandemic.
Explaining the reason for honouring Edochie, Eke said that the honour was as a result of the legend’s contributions to the development of the film sector across the continent and beyond.
According to him, Pete Edochie came into prominence in the 1980s after he played the lead role of Okonkwo in an NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s all-time bestselling novel, Things Fall Apart, and since then, the talented actor has not looked back. At 73, he’s still active and ever busy than the young actors.
Edochie‘s award comes after he was honoured with the Industry Merit Award by Africa Magic. He was also honoured at the 2014 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award, (AMVCA) for his contribution towards the growth of the film sector in Africa.
