Peter Okoye, Nathaniel Bassey React Jos Deadly Massacre

Nigerian musicians Peter Okoye and Nathaniel Bassey have taken to social media to condemn the deadly attack in Jos, Plateau State.

According to reports, the incident, which occurred on March 29, at a bar in the Gari Ya Waye area of Jos North Local Government Area, reportedly claimed several lives, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries, sparking fresh concerns over security in the area.

Peter, who grew up in Plateau, wrote on X, “My heart is heavy… My prayers are with my people in Jos ” in response to the violence.

Also on X, Nathaniel wrote: “JOS ! You shall not be broken. The forces of evil in our nation shall never prevail. We shall see their end. It is well with you Jos, We see you! Let there be light !”

Following the attack, the Plateau State Government  imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, on Sunday

In a statement issued on Sunday, the government said the curfew would take immediate effect from 12:00 midnight of March 29 and remain in force until April 1, 2026.

The statement, signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, said the directive was taken in collaboration with security agencies to restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order.

“The Plateau State Government, in conjunction with security agencies, hereby imposes a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area with immediate effect,” the statement read.

Reacting to the development, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unprovoked.

“This is a senseless and barbaric attack on innocent citizens. We strongly condemn it in its entirety,” the governor said.

He assured residents that security agencies had been mobilised to apprehend the perpetrators.

“We are committed to ensuring that those behind this heinous act are identified, arrested and brought to justice without delay,” he added.
