Nigerian dancer Iweh Odinaka, better known as Poco Lee, has spoken out for the first time about the sexual offence case he is facing in a UK court, saying he is innocent.
Eelive.ng reports that Poco Lee was recently released, even though he is due to appear in a UK court on September 15 for plea and trial preparation after being formally charged with five sexual offences, including two counts of rape.
The Snaresbrook Crown Court in London had confirmed that the five charges include one count of attempted rape, two counts of rape, and two counts of assault by penetration.
In a recent interview with social media influencer VeryDarkMan, Poco Lee said he is innocent and did not sexually assault anyone.
He also said that if he were guilty, well-known figures like Burna Boy and Rahman Jago would not support him.
He added that he remained concerned about the case’s effect on his associates and maintained that he was not guilty of the allegations.
“I was just being myself, my only worry out there was my people. I told Jago, cause he couldn’t do anything, business-wise, social media-wise, and I am not a child to want to stress anyone.
“And even if I speak with them, I apologise that they are being stressed, and they don’t like it. And if I were guilty, I would know that I am paying for my sins, but I am innocent and so my mind is pure.
“Nobody would want to attach themselves to something like that. But for Burna, Jago and other associates to stand for me, that is huge.
“I don’t need to define myself, I am just living my life, I don’t have a specific direction, I am just being me. I am a jolly good fellow; I have woken up to gist about me that isn’t true.”
He also urged men to be wary in their interactions with women, saying they should use “18 hours a day to fear women.”
How the case began
The case followed Poco Lee’s trip to the UK in August for the Davido and Friends concert at the Crystal Palace Bowl in London, held on August 14.
With the September 15 hearing now listed, the case is expected to move into another stage of the UK criminal justice process as preparations for the proceedings continue.
For now, claims that the case has been withdrawn or resolved remain unconfirmed, while the CPS maintains that the matter is still active.
