Police detain Naira Marley over alleged involvement in Mohbad’s death

Naira Marley, the Nigerian musician, has been taken into custody by the Lagos police.

This happened amid an investigation into the death of Mohbad, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba.

Mohbad passed away on September 12 under circumstances that have raised suspicions. The suspicions led to a public outcry and calls for justice.

The circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death have been controversial. Some Nigerians have accussed Naira Marley, the head of Marlian Records and Mohbad’s former label, of being involved.

Mohbad had previously alleged that he was assaulted by Naira Marley in October 2022 and had asked his fans to hold Naira Marley responsible if any harm came to him.

The Lagos police inaugurated a special investigation team on September 18 to probe Mohbad’s death.

They have also exhumed Mohbad’s corpse for an autopsy, the results of which are awaited.

Naira Marley, who had been out of the country since August 31, 2023, expressed his willingness to cooperate with the police investigation and denied any involvement in Mohbad’s death.

He claimed that Mohbad battled mental health issues, and he had tried to seek help for him.

The Lagos state judiciary has initiated a coroner’s inquest to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death.
