Nigerian author and social commentator, Reno Omokri, has stirred a wave of conversation on his Instagram page, following his latest piece of advice targeted at fresh graduates and young professionals.
In a post shared on his Instagram page on October 8th, Omokri strongly advised against the popular trend of moving out of one’s parents’ home immediately after securing a job.

However, according to Omokri, the desire for Independence and privacy may come at the expense of financial stability. He argues that moving out prematurely can become a “recipe for poverty” and suggests that young adults take a more strategic and patient approach to financial freedom.

“Graduating from university and moving out of your parents’ home immediately you get a job is a recipe for poverty,” he wrote. “Yes, you may desire privacy, but that may come with the absence of prosperity.”
Speaking further, citing the Asian model of wealth building as an example, Omokri went on to encourage young people to stay with their parents or even extended family members, in order to save money. “Even a plane crawls before it takes off,” he added.
