Nigerian entrepreneur and socialite Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has revealed the real reason he joined politics while firmly dismissing claims that his engagement is motivated by selfish ambition or personal profit.
In a personal statement released today, the flamboyant businessman declared that his involvement stems purely from a passion to bridge the gap between government and citizens, especially the youth.

“I have built my empire through hard work and smart investments as a private citizen. I have never held public office nor enjoyed any government patronage,” Cubana stated. “My entry into political discourse is to create platforms for real engagement between young Nigerians and the older generation, and across our diverse regions.”

His clarification comes amid his prominent role in the City Boy Movement, which backs the sitting President Bola Tinubu’s agenda ahead of 2027.
Cubana, once linked to Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign, fired back at critics, saying: “I will never undermine any ethnic group. Such claims are divisive lies meant to weaken Nigeria.” Cubana praised the City Boy Movement as a platform for youth-driven, issue-based politics that puts ideas above ethnic sentiments.
Cubana concluded: “Focus on policies and collective progress, not division. The people hold the power.”
