Real will not be an all-time classic as expected by music lovers and casual fans of Afrobeats. Of course, the music project would fascinate and entertain fans of Afrobeats’ iconic duo, Asake and Wizkid; however, the value of the project would predominantly be swept under the rug in the coming weeks, months, and inevitably just become a 4-piece music collaboration between two heavyweights.

While fans of Wizkid and Asake are applauding their favourite do releasing the voraciously anticipated collaboration project in the early part of 2026, casual fans are indifferent, and music pundits might genuinely have nothing to say about this new release. It’s an interesting initiative; however, it wouldn’t rack up awards and wreak havoc in the mainstream media.

It is just what it is, a good piece of music created for fans of both Wizkid and Asake. Also, Asake has mentioned time and again that Wizkid is the artiste whom he has always aspired to work with. After working together on three previous songs over the years, this new EP is a dream come true for both parties. For Asake, he is in his prime, and he is working with a legend. As for Wizkid, he needs Asake’s prominence and capabilities to maintain his star power and popularity.

In December 2025, eelive.ng wrote extensively about the collaboration project between Wizkid and Asake. The news of course was met with predominantly positive reactions from fans of the Afrobeats superstars from various parts of the world. It was expected to be a fire and probably propel the music genre and Afrobeats culture to a greater height.

To begin with, the album was scheduled to be released during the festive period; however, it didn’t emerge until Thursday, January 22, amid Wizkid’s ongoing feud with controversial second-generation musician and social activist, Seun Kuti. Perhaps it was for marketing reasons, or the management chose an early release to put the superstars ahead of their contemporaries for strategic purposes, which are best known to both artistes and their representatives; however, no statement was issued to address fans who were anticipating the project.

Above all, the music project was released, and expectedly, it shook the internet for, hmm… less than 24 hours.

After 24 hours, fans of both Afrobeats flagbearers have played the easy-to-listen 4-track EP, and they can’t choose a memorable song. No smash hit from the record, decent music, but it would be swept under the rug by the middle of February when the music industry returns to full swing.

Both Asake and Wizkid are incredibly artistes, without mincing words, however, there is still room for a lot of improvement. The music project, Real. Vol 1 did not live up to its expectations.

This is volume one; that is, there’ll be a volume 2. Perhaps we should expect improvement and a much more polished approach to music. Fans of both artistes can gaslight audiences into believing this is the best thing their favourite celebrities have to offer; however, it’s simply deceit. None of the four tracks combined is as influential as ‘MMS’ released on Asake’s 3rd studio album, Lungu Boy.

Creating music is not only the job of both artistes, but it’s also their hobby and what they are most passionate about. However, there are days when the average person has a bad day at work. Now, let’s assume both musicians were having a bad day at the office when they recorded Real.

In the meantime, kudos to both of them.
