Ricco Ross has recounted that his father’s personality inspired his character as Horace in the Tyler Perry movie series, Beauty in Black.
According to Ricco Ross, playing Horace Bellarie in Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black is a complex, multi-layered journey, drawing deep inspiration from his own father while navigating the character’s shocking wealth, health scares, and shifting moral boundaries.
Speaking in a video seen by eelive.ng Ross mentioned that he modelled Horace’s calm, low-toned delivery and steady presence on his late father, a gentle giant and Golden Gloves boxer who never needed to raise his voice.

Writing his inspiration for the character, Ross wrote on his Instagram page, “For Horace, I found myself drawing from someone I knew well… my father. His presence, mannerisms, and the way he carried himself helped me connect with the character in an authentic way.
Sometimes the best inspiration comes from the people who shaped us.”
