Richard Herd, ‘Seinfeld’ Actor, Dies at 87

Richard Herd, a famed American actor who played Mr. Wilhelm on Seinfeld, has died from cancer complications. He was 87.

According to his rep, the film star breathed his last on Tuesday at his Los Angeles home surrounded by his loved ones and family.

Herd broke into show business as a stage actor in New York. He made his film debut in 1970’s Hercules in New York.

Herd was hired as Richard Long’s replacement for the part of Watergate burglar; James McCord in Alan J. Pakula’s All the President’s Men. He has appeared in dozens of films and television series,

Herd‘s extensive film credits include roles in Get Out and All the President’s Men.

The Boston native appeared in 11 episodes of Seinfeld as Mr. Wilhem, George Costanza‘s demanding boss at the New York Yankees. Herd, a Boston native, was a self-proclaimed Red Sox fan.

He is also had a roles on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” “Star Trek: Voyager” and “Star Trek: Renegades.” He made appearances on “The O.C.” “NYPD Blue,” “ER” and “Dallas,” among numerous other series.

Herd is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia Crowder Herd. Survivors also include his daughter Erica, son Rick and stepdaughter Alicia.
