Banky W to Nigerians: The Country is in Your Hands

Respected Nigerian musician and actor, Bankole Wellington aka Banky W has advised Nigerians shun meaningless conversation and take concrete action plans towards national development.

The record label boss in an interview with Saturday PUNCH said, “I cannot tell you how many seminars and nation building events I have spoken at. We need to ask ourselves the concrete action steps we have to take? The problem in Nigeria is from the top-down but the solution is from the bottom.”

Banky W also touches on issues of community service stated “the greatness that you are seeking to achieve is more than what you get; it is also about what you give. Find somewhere— a community— to give to.”

To further explain his points, he said “Do something that is greater than your own personal pursuit of success. Chase for success, chase for wealth, chase for relevance and all of that, but do something that is bigger than you.”

It's not enough to sit and complain about what our leaders are/aren't doing... what are we doing about it ourselves? I'm a strong believer in the idea that no single person can fix EVERYTHING but each of us can fix SOMETHING...I believe that Nigeria will get better when enough of us are willing to go beyond pointing fingers and complaining, to playing our part in the rebuilding of our country. Luckily, I go to a Church @mywaterbrook that believes this too. And so we have made a commitment that every last Saturday of the month, we will get together and do some Community Service work. Even if it's something as simple as a group of young people picking up the trash that litters the streets. We know that we have a long way to go as a country, and these are just baby steps.. but they're baby steps in the right direction. Feel free to join us any last-Saturday-morning you're in town. And you don't need to be a Member of the church or even a Christian to join us. You just need to want better for your country, and be willing to do better with us. Follow @mywaterbrook to stay in the loop. And I hope we see you next month? 🙏🏽❤🙌🏽 #communityservice #thewaterbrookchurch #community #streetcleaning #fixNigeria #onecommunityatatime #strongertogether music: @phynofino - "So far, so good"

The Wedding Party actor disclosed his commitments in church and at the Banky Wellington Foundation on every last Saturday of the month is for community service. “Even If it is as small as 20 or 30 people that get together, we would pick thrash on our streets,”he  said.

This is not the first time the singer and politician is speaking up and encouraging people to take action. Last year December, he called on Nigerians to take action against the human rights abuse ravaging the country.
