Serena Williams Talks About Losing Her Sister to Gun Violence

World tennis champion and general badass, Serena Williams is not a fan of guns. She shares this sentiment while speaking to 12-year old gun control activist and host of DiversiTea, Naomi Wadler.

In the conversation about the effects of gun violence on black women, Williams talked about her sister Yetunde Price who lost her life in 2003 after been shot and killed while she was sitting in an SUV in Compton, California, at the age of 31.

The star athlete said “I was affected personally by gun violence; my sister unfortunately passed from that. People are talking about it now because it’s happening more widespread but it’s been affecting our community for years.”

On the importance of talking about difficult issues, Williams added “I think we need to get comfortable with having uncomfortable conversations. Situations are never really gonna get better if you always avoid it, you have to take it head-on.”

This is the first episode of the web series, DiversiTea. It expected that other notable persons will follow soon.
