Seun Kuti Apologies for No-Show at the Grammys, Congratulates Soweto Gospel Choir

Staying up late 2am in the morning anticipating Seun Kuti’s performance appeared to be the highlight for most Nigerians at this year’s Grammys. Unfortunately, they were disappointed not just by his loss in the World Music Album category but also for his no-show on the Grammy stage.

Plagued by poor scheduling that voided any chances of rehearsals before the glamorous night, he was asked to step down in order to allow the planning committee follow through with confirmed acts who have done their rehearsals ahead of the event.

To correct the notion most persons may have of him, the afrobeat star in a brief post on Instagram explained why he couldn’t perform at music’s biggest night.

“First and foremost I have to say I am sorry to all the fans that tuned in to see us perform yesterday but didn’t. I had the weirdest ticket mix up in history meaning I missed my flight and the rehearsals and we couldn’t go on.”

He also made a shout-out to the Soweto Gospel Choir who took home the award.

“Big up to Soweto Gospel Choir a group that has also inspired me,” he wrote
