Seun Kuti to Register Movement of the People as Political Party

Per his parley back in November 2020, musician Seun Kuti is taking step to register the Movement of the People (MOP) as a political party.

The 38-year-old shared a picture of an official letter written to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to demand the requirements for registration in an Instagram post on Thursday.

The letter says, “We are promoters of the Political Association, known and described as MOVEMENT OF THE PEOPLE.

“We write to request from your esteemed Commission the list of requirements to be met to register our Political Association as a Political Party. Thank you.”

Movement of The People was his father Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s political party, which Seun revived in November 2020.

“The idea is that we liberate the Nigerian people, they might be on this table. But I want to guarantee you that this movement will be the movement to cultivate those minds, those ideas. The pan Africanist and socialist foundation,” Seun said.

It is currently unclear whether the new political party will face as many hindrances from the government; just #EndSARS, the resulting MOP meeting, and almost every youth movement. However, if this happens, it would not come as a surprise.
