Nigerian artist Simi, has opened up about the personal struggles behind her latest track, “Where You Dey”, a collaboration with Chike.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, she shared that the song, produced by Niphkeys and mixed and mastered by herself, was actually finished during one of the toughest chapters of her life, while she was dealing with pregnancy and serious health issues.

She had originally planned to release it last year, right after teasing fans with an early snippet. But things took a turn, “I was sick and weak and nauseous and tired, and my body just wouldn’t do what I wanted it to,”. Even during the filming of that snippet video, she was pushing through physical discomfort.
Interestingly, Chike laid down his verse completely unaware of her pregnancy or the challenges she was facing at the time. Simi praised his dedication and admitted that looking back at old studio clips now leaves her amazed.
Simi admitted feeling some regret over missing her self-imposed timeline and not being able to give the song the full rollout it deserved, especially since it holds so much meaning for her. The latest mother of twins also took the opportunity to shut down any talk that she’s stepped back from music.
