Singer AGY Jailed Over Song Calling Governor Ganduje A “Thief”

Singer, Mohammed Yusuf also known as AGY, has been sentenced to two years in jail over a song  abusing Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

The court found the Kano based singer guilty of 3 count charges namely singing without permission from Kano censors board, shooting video without permission and abusing Governor Ganduje.

According to the lyrics of the song, the Singer described the Governor as someone who likes money more a thief

The first two offences for which the singer was sentenced to one year in jail, he has an option to pay N100,000 fine but the abuse of Ganduje carries a jail term of one year jail time without an option of fine.

It should be recalled that AGY was arrested on Tuesday days after the police had wrongfully arrested another musician, Sanusi Abdullahi, better known as SK, thinking he was the one that sang the song

Zazzabi was arraigned before the censorship court for allegedly violating the state’s censorship board law which requires that songs or movies should pass censorship screening before release.

The musician was later granted bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties one of whom must be a member of the music writers association of Kano State, and the other a civil servant of not lower than grade level 14.
