Nigerian singer Seyi Sodimu has shared the one lesson he learned after his classic hit song,  Love Me Jeje, which was remade by singer Tems, earning her a Grammy Award earlier this year.

Sodimu while speaking in an interview with Saturday Beatsspoke emphasized on the importance of always giving one’s best in any endeavor.

“The lesson I learnt from recording Love Me Jeje is to always do your best. When I wrote that song, I put in 100 per cent. That is why over 20 years later, it won a Grammy. So, whatever you do, put in your best,” he said.

The songwriter also expressed pride in how much afrobeats has grown, a genre that has grown massively since the time he first released his hit song in 1997.

“I feel so proud because when we were putting in the work over 20 years ago, we always knew this day would come. Back then, we did so much with so little. Seeing all these young artistes and what they are doing with afrobeats, I feel like a proud father. It’s like being a Jay Jay Okocha in this generation,” he added.

Tems’ version of Love Me Jeje is featured on her debut album Born in the Wild, which was released under RCA Records.

The album’s success earned her a Grammy win at the 2024 edition of the awards, cementing her place in global music and giving new life to Sodimu’s iconic record.
