In the Nigerian society, single mothers are often ostracized, criticized, and demeaned due to the situation that they find themselves in. Nigeria is a religious society that often lacks sympathy and empathy for the vulnerable, a society that has found a way to use derogatory remarks to disqualify those who haven’t necessarily been able to make ideal decisions.
The Nigerian society doesn’t cater to the well-being of the average citizen, nor do they look after those who are battling drug addictions, the unemployed, the physically challenged, and the primary subject for today, single mothers.
Single mothers have often been seen as the crumbs of society due to the unavailability of a male partner or to do things the right way, which is marriage or courtship.

Tacha Akide
In 2019, Natasha Akide shook the entertainment industry due to her foul mouth and aggressive personality when she appeared in the fourth edition of the most-watched Nigerian reality show, Big Brother Naija. Although Tacha was disqualified from the show due to her bout against eventual winner Mercy Eke, she continued to pursue excellence both in her personal and professional life.
It was later discovered that Tacha had a child out of wedlock when she was much younger.
Bisola Aiyeola
Bisola Aiyeola and her siblings were single-handedly raised by her mother after her father abandoned them when she was just three years old.
Aiyeola featured in the 2017 Big Brother Naija Gobe edition. She has since gone on to become a movie star.

Ini Edo got married to Philip Ehiagwina in 2008, but the marriage ended in 2014.
In December 2021, she announced in an interview that she has a daughter.

Popular Yoruba movie actress, Biodun Okeowo, who is better known as Omobutty, according to reports, openly admitted that she was never married at any point, although she was once in an abusive relationshi,p which left her a single parent. She got married to her American-based partner in 2024.
