The 2020 Festival scheduled to run through 26th of February to 1st of March, is themed “disruption.” The Storymoja Festival is Kenya’s most prestigious literary festival. Founded by Muthoni Garland in 2007, the festival is a celebration of ideas, stories, writing, live discussions, storytelling, skits, poetry, music, demonstrations, workshops, debates, exhibitions, live performance, art, and culture through books.

The festival is famous for the kind of crowd it pulls together since its inception in 2007, it has had many famous writers attending like Wole Soyinka, Namwali Serpell, Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi, Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor, Ben Okri, Lola Shoneyin, Yusef Komunyakaa, Dinaw Mengistu, Teju Cole, Kwame Dawes, Kofi Awoonor, Wally Mongane Serote, Mshai Mwangola, Tsitsi Dangarembga, amongst others.

Nonetheless, the festival has seen tough times, as its last edition dates back to 2017. Hopefully, this come back will be sustained over time.
