The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has named Sydney Sparrow, PMAN Governor for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as Acting National President following the suspension of its national president, Pretty Okafor, over alleged constitutional breaches and administrative misconduct.
The decision was reached at an emergency NEC meeting held on Thursday, following a special congress convened to review pressing constitutional and administrative concerns within the association.
In a statement signed by Abdulhakeem Abdulsalam, PMAN Governor for Kogi State, the council accused Okafor of gross violations of the association’s constitution, abuse of office, and disregard for due process. The suspension, which takes immediate effect, will remain in place pending the outcome of a full investigation.

According to the NEC, the allegations against Okafor include the unilateral appointment of vice presidents without the council’s approval, the unlawful removal of PMAN’s National Treasurer, Baba Ojonugwa, failure of the National Working Committee to effectively carry out its duties, intolerance of opposing views, and alleged irregularities surrounding a joint venture linked to PMAN’s Abuja property.
As part of immediate corrective actions, the council nullified all unilateral appointments made by the suspended president, reinstated Baba Ojonugwa as national treasurer, and ordered a forensic audit of the association’s financial records.
“The NEC assures members across the country that this step is corrective rather than punitive, and it underscores our commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of the interests of Nigerian musicians,” the statement noted.
