Tade Thompson Wins The 2019 UK Arthur C. Clarke Award for “Rosewater”

Tade Thompson, a British born-Nigerian psychiatrist, is the winner of the 2019 UK Arthur C. Clarke Award for his sci-fi novel “Rosewater.”

Rosewater, which is Thompson’s second novel, follows Kaaro, a government agent with the ability to read thoughts and emotions of other people. He lives in Rosewater, Nigeria, a community at the edge of an alien Bio-dome rumored to have healing powers. When Kaaro learns that others like him are being killed off, he must search for an answer, facing his own dark past and coming to a realization about a horrifying future.

The Arthur C. Clarke Award for Science Fiction is the most prestigious award for science fiction in the United Kingdom. Previous winners include; Margaret Atwood, Geoff Ryman, Lauren Beukes, Ian R. MacLeod, amongst others. Nnedi Okoroafor made the shortlist in 2016.

Tade Thompson is a British born-Nigerian psychiatrist. Thompson was a Nommo Award and a Kitschies Golden Tentacle Award Winner.
