Nigerian recording artiste, Temilade Openiyi, who is better known as Tems, has become the first female African artist to earn a Diamond single in the United States.
This is her collaborative hit with Future and Drake, ‘Wait For U,’ which was recently certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America, RIAA, for selling over 10 million units in the U.S.

Global music monitoring platform, Chart Data, revealed that the song has sold over 11 million units in the U.S.
“US Certifications (@RIAA): Future (@1future) Feat. @Drake & @temsbaby, WAIT FOR U 11x Platinum (11,000,000),” the platform posted on X on Friday.

Tems now joins Wizkid as the only African artists to earn a Diamond single in the US. Wizkid was the first African artist to receive a RIAA Diamond Certification through his collaboration with Drake on ‘One Dance.’
Temilade Anna Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer. She rose to prominence after being featured on Wizkid’s 2020 single “Essence”, which peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following the release of the remix version with Justin Bieber.
