The best comedies on Netflix in August

With a massive collection to pick from, Netflix can sometimes get overwhelming.

Picking the right movie to watch could be as strenuous as picking the right outfit for a first date. Netflix’s movie library is so expansive, it’s downright intimidating. How do you even pick? That’s where I come in.

I’ve combed through the platform, picking out some fun movies for the days when you just need a laugh. We know we always have those days.

So here goes, some of the best comedies to watch on Netflix in August.

Here are five of my favorite picks
Due Date
Netflix

Released in 2010, this movie follows a man who’s forced to go on a road-trip across the country with an aspiring actor. He’s trying to get to Los Angeles in time for the birth of his child.

Due Date stars Robert Downey Jr., Zach Galifianakis, Jamie Foxx, Juliette Lewis, and Michelle Monaghan.

Bad Trip
Netflix
BAD TRIP(2021) Eric AndrŽ as Chris Carey and Lil Rel Howery as Bud Malone. NETFLIX

If you’re in the mood for serious laughter, this is perfect for you. Eric Andre and Lil Rel Howrey are perfect in Bad Trip. The duo play a pair of friends who have to drive from Florida to New York so that Andre’s character can declare his love for his high school crush.

Tifanny Haddish also stars as Lil Rel’s jail breaking criminal sister. The movie is shot as a bunch of pranks with oblivious strangers and passerby’s serving as supporting characters.

It was released on Netflix in March 2021.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga
Netflix

This American musical comedy, written by Will Ferrell and Andrew Steele was a pleasant suprise in 2020. The movie stars Ferrell and Rachel McAdams as Icelandic singers, Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdóttir.

These small-town singers chase their pop star dreams at Eurovision, a global music competition.

Pierce Brosnan, Dan Stevens, and Demi Lovato also star. The film also received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 93rd Academy Awards.

American Ultra
Netflix

If action comedies are your thing, this movie is perfect for you.

This 2015 movie stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart as lovers. However, Eisenberg is being pursued by the CIA as unknown to him, he’s a part of a secret government program and is a sleeper agent.

The movie wasn’t a box office smash but it’s a fun watch.

Dolemite is my Name

This movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2019 before hitting Netflix later in the year. An amazing performance from the legendary Eddie Murphy makes this an enjoyable watch.

Dolemite was chosen by Time magazine as one of the ten best films 2019. The movie was also nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the 77th Golden Globe Awards.

The movie is based on the true story of comedian, Rudy Ray Moore.
