Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema has stirred conversation in the music industry after opening up about what he perceives as a lack of recognition from some of his peers.
The singer, known for his distinctive sound and bold creative direction, spoke in a recent interview about his frustration with artists allegedly replicating his ideas without giving him due credit. According to Rema, while he is aware of the influence he has on others, the absence of acknowledgement remains noticeable.
“Even though some artists won’t give me my flowers, I know how many of them have copied my moves,” he stated.

Rema further explained that the fast-paced nature of the music industry often leaves little room to fully explore new ideas before others adopt similar concepts. Despite this, Rema maintained that his approach is to keep evolving rather than dwell on imitation.

“Sometimes they don’t even give you time to dwell on the new idea you thought about, but when you’re that guy, you have to move on and create something new,” he added.

A notable figure in the global Afrobeats movement, Rema rose to fame with his 2019 hit “Dumebi” and has since become one of Nigeria’s most influential young artists. He also made history with his global smash “Calm Down,” which achieved massive international success and further cemented his place on the world stage.
