Seasoned Nigerian movie actor Timini Egbuson has stated that he once got caught up in the pressure to project a luxurious lifestyle, revealing that maturity made him realise that material possessions do not guarantee happiness.
Speaking on The Mentality with Ebuka, Timini said he was once part of the culture of wanting to “have it all,” but eventually discovered that there will always be “a newer watch, a newer car” and something else to chase.
He disclosed that he used to own about 150 perfumes, but has stopped buying more after realising the money could have been invested in assets like land.

While stressing that there is nothing wrong with enjoying good things, the actor said the real question is whether people are genuinely fulfilled by how they acquired those possessions.
“Are you doing it with your full chest? Like how you got it, are you happy with it when you’re alone, when you’re looking into your mirror? And without it, would you still be happy?” he asked.

Timini also revealed that he has experienced financial struggles but has learnt to remain content regardless of his circumstances.
Reflecting on his journey as an influencer, he admitted, “There were days that I was that guy that I will fake it, I will borrow.” However, he said he has deliberately stepped away from promoting a lifestyle that could pressure others into unhealthy competition.
According to him, public figures need to be more honest about life’s ups and downs because audiences may be making dangerous sacrifices just to keep up with the glamorous images they see online. He added that creators should remind people that bad days are normal and that self-worth should never be tied to material possessions.
