Nigerian actor William Benson, known for his role as Efemini in Kemi Adetiba’s Netflix series “To Kill a Monkey,” has shared a heart-wrenching story about losing his parents.

In a candid interview with media personality Chude Jidenowo, Benson revealed that his parents, Ehinze Willy Benson Ordia and Comfort Oriseyomobo Benson, passed away in March 2020, just 16 days apart. According to him, his father’s health had been declining due to sepsis caused by medication complications.

The pain was compounded when Benson’s mother was hospitalised while his father was receiving treatment. Despite the doctor’s reassurance that his mother was fine, she took a turn for the worse. On March 5, 2020, Benson’s brother called him to break the news that their mother was on oxygen. In a touching moment, Benson prayed, “God, if I’m the one holding her, cause I’ve held her for too long, I don’t want her to go but if I’m the one holding her, I let her go.” Sadly, his mother passed away shortly after.

Just four days before his birthday, on March 21, 2020, Benson’s father also passed away, leaving him to deal with the double loss in the same month.

Benson’s emotional revelation comes as he continues to bask in the success of “To Kill a Monkey,” where he plays a complex character struggling with cybercrime and personal demons. The series has garnered widespread acclaim, with many praising Benson’s performance as “hauntingly real” and “transformative”.
