Renowned gospel singer Tope Alabi has opened up about a deeply painful chapter in her life before marriage, revealing she endured several emotional and physical traumas in her past relationships.
The celebrated music singer in a recent interview recounted how several men she dated left her after claiming to have received spiritual warnings against marrying her.
“When I was a spinster, whenever it was time for any man I dated to meet my parents, they would look for one excuse to dump me. They said they prayed over our future and the prophets told them not to marry me. This happened with about four men,’’ she said.

After facing repeated rejection, the singer met another man who seemed different, or so she thought, believing his promises, she began a relationship with him and eventually moved in. Her father later asked the man to bring his family for an introduction, but he only showed up with friends.

“One day, I met a man who said he loved me and wanted to marry me,” Tope explained. “I told him to go and pray about it first so it wouldn’t be like the previous men, but he said he didn’t believe in that and that he was ready to settle down with me.”
“He brought his friends and said he would bring his family members later, which he never did,” Tope recounted. “When a man knows you are vulnerable, he will take advantage of you.”
The gospel star went on to share how the relationship turned abusive.
“He was always beating me. I didn’t know he already had a fiancée,” she said. “I remember I got pregnant and carried it for one year. My stomach was always protruding and going flat. The baby had to be evacuated.”

Despite enduring the loss, Tope found herself pregnant again — but the man abandoned her completely.
“After a while, I got pregnant again and went to live with my parents. The father of the baby never asked of me till I had the baby,” she revealed. “Still, he didn’t show up after he was told I put to bed. I had to carry the baby to see him four days after I delivered.”
Ending her story, Tope Alabi warned women about the dangers of emotional vulnerability and the importance of waiting for genuine commitment before marriage.
“Ladies, never let love or a painful past push you to go live with a man before marriage,” she advised. “See finish will set in, and he will take you for granted. I saw hell.”
“May you not experience affliction in life.”
