Trevor Noah files suit against NYC hospital

South African comedian, Trevor Noah has filed a lawsuit against his doctor and a New York City hospital. He claims that their negligence caused him to permanent and severe injuries.

The host of The Daily Show alleged that he was poorly diagnosed of his illness by the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and Dr. Riley J. Williams III. He accused them of  negligently performing exams and surgery; and failing to refer him to a specialist with the skill and training to treat his illness.

The 37 year old also alleged that they failed to provide appropriate medical treatment and obtain proper and informed consent for treatment.

However, according to the HSS spokesperson the claims are “meritless.”. In a statement issued, the spokesperson stated,

“Due to HIPAA, we are restricted by law from addressing publicly specific aspects of the treatment of any patient.”

Noah did not reveal the nature of his illness in his complaint. However, he revealed that he received treatment from HSS and Williams III between August 25, 2020, and December 17, 2020. While the surgery held on November 23, 2020.

His complaint states that he “sustained severe and painful personal injuries, sustained severe nervous shock, mental anguish, severe emotional distress, and great physical pain.”

It further reveals that he was “confined to bed and home for a long period of time. This led him to suffer “loss of enjoyment of life” and prevented him from doing his job for a long period of time, the complaint said.

The complaint also reveals that some of his injuries are permanent,” he will continue to suffer similar damages in the future,” the complaint also states.

Dr. Riley J. Williams III is yet to speak on the complaint.
