Music promoter Tunde Perry has made a startling revelation about the current state of the Nigerian music industry, claiming that emerging artistes are facing difficulties due to the actions of popular singer Portable.
Speaking in a viral video, Perry disclosed that he has not crossed paths with rapper Olamide this year. He emphasised that the “tight circle” of industry support has largely been limited to major promoters and established artists, excluding Olamide.
In his words: “Olamide and I haven’t seen each other this year. The tight circle was with big promoters in the industry not Olamide and they said Portable has ruined the chances of upcomings to be helped by them and big artistes.”
According to Perry, these key figures believe that Portable’s behaviour has negatively impacted the chances of up and coming musicians receiving mentorship and opportunities from seasoned artists.

However his statement sheds light on the ongoing tension between established and emerging talents within Nigeria’s music scene. Many promoters and veteran artists are reportedly cautious about collaborating with rising stars due to controversies surrounding Portable. Perry’s remarks suggest that while the industry is lucrative, navigating it remains challenging for new artists seeking guidance and support from established names.
