South African sensation Laura ‘Tyla’ Seethal has called for more African artists to claim Grammy victories following her historic second consecutive win in the Best African Music Performance category.
At the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on February 1, 2026, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the 24-year-old became the first artist ever to take the category twice since it launched. She earned the trophy with her single Push 2 Start, after previously winning in 2024 for her massive global hit Water.

In her Billboard interview right after the win, Tyla beaming in joy and pride over the achievement said: “I’m so grateful. This is insane. It just shows me how far we can take it. Being from where I’m from, we really have a chance, and that’s just amazing.”
She then looked forward, passionately advocating for wider African presence and success at the awards. “When I was young, I wanted to see my girls getting Grammys and everything, and we’ve got that, but we need more. I’m excited to see the rest of our African superstars who are killing it right now be there as well. We are coming,” Tyla declared.
