U-Turn Alert: Edo Aide Pulls Back Harsh Warning Against Davido, Clears Governor of Blame

Apostle Kassy Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, has made a sharp U-turn over his controversial threat against Afrobeats star Davido.

In a video released on 22 August 2026, Chukwu retracted his earlier declaration that the singer was banned from performing or entering Edo State for the rest of the governor’s tenure.

He had previously warned, “You have been banned from coming to Edo State to perform. We don’t want to see you in Edo again,” and threatened hostile treatment, including possible physical violence by youths.

The dispute began after Okpebholo criticised Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle. Davido responded by sharing what appeared to be Okpebholo’s WAEC result and later refused to apologise.

In his new video, Chukwu clarified: “I didn’t make that video as a government appointee or on the instruction of the Edo State Governor. I made it in my personal capacity as a son of the governor, who was offended by Davido’s statement.”

This apology aligns with the Edo State Government’s official stance. Information Commissioner Kassim Afegbua had already disowned the ban, describing its author as an “impostor and fraud” and affirming that Davido remains welcome in the state as “our son.”
