Music executive, Ubi Franklin has spoken out in defence of Chioma Adeleke, wife of Nigerian music star Davido, after an online user questioned her generosity towards her husband.
The conversation began when a user on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that Davido often buys expensive gifts for Chioma but alleged that she had never given him anything in return. The post sparked debate on social media, with some users weighing in on how celebrity couples should express love and appreciation for each other.
Reacting through his official X account, Franklin dismissed the claim, stating that Chioma does spend money on her husband but prefers to keep such gestures private.
He revealed that during Davido’s 30th birthday celebration two years ago, Chioma surprised the singer with 30 different gifts to match his age.
According to him, the fact that such acts are not posted on social media does not mean they do not happen. He described Chioma as a thoughtful and generous partner who does not need public validation for her actions.
“Chioma spends on David, too. You all want everything to be shown on social media so it looks like a competition. I remember David’s birthday two years ago, when he turned 30, Chioma bought David 30 gifts. That it is not shown doesn’t mean it is not done,” Franklin wrote
Ubi Franklin further questioned why people seem to measure relationships based on visible acts of generosity, stressing that marriage should not be reduced to a score-keeping contest.
Davido and Chioma, who tied the knot in 2023 after years of an on-and-off relationship, have been in the public eye for much of their romance.
Franklin, a close associate of Davido and a known family friend, has previously defended the couple against negative online narratives.
