Uche Montana is the actress on everyone’s lips. Pundits have dubbed her the next big thing, some commentators have dubbed her the ‘Genevieve of the modern Nollywood Generation’. Another coterie of individuals identified her as the most exciting actress to grace our screen in recent years, regardless of the titles bestowed upon her, Uche Montana is the exciting thespian to watch with keen interest and enthusiasm as she delivers her monologue.
While some are captivated by her beauty, ease, and charisma, several others are awed by her natural ability to deliver acting with a poise that has been missing in the Nigerian movie industry for the last decade.

While sensational actresses such as Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Rita Dominic are no longer at the peak of their careers, there has been vacuum fulfilling the role of thespians who can enthrall an audience with not just their beauty but can equally fascinate them with eloquence, poise and capture the attention of the viewers for atleast one hour thirty minutes.

Evolution of Entertainment: Connecting Through YouTube

The mode of entertainment and communication has transitioned immensely in the last decade, in the 2000s and 2010s, actors and movie producers wanted their movies to debut in cinema or at least be televised on Africa Magic, however, the emergence of social media and online movie streaming platforms made an immense adjustment in the market.
People prefer to connect with the world via their mobile phones and personal computers rather than traveling down to a cinema to buy movie tickets. With the advent of YouTube, Netflix, iroko tv, etc, it is only ideal for creatives to adjust with the times and find methodologies on how to reach their audience, carve a niche in the market, and most importantly, make their funds.
Before acknowledging Uche Montana, it is important to applaud the creativity and business-mindedness of other thespians such as Ruth Kadiri and Omoni Oboli, who are Nigerian actors with the most subscribers on the video streaming platform, YouTube.
They have been able to own that sphere by sharing movies that can soar on their own, an example would be Love In Every Word, the movie that featured Odogwu and Achalugo, but I digress. Collaborating with other burgeoning thespians such as Maurice Sam, BamBam, Ray Emodi, and Sophia Chisom, Montana has been to discover her people and quickly mine gold. Garnering over half a million subscribers, it is safe to say she is on the ideal path.

What Will Be The Legacy of Uche Montana?

We can only watch and wait to discover what the captivating actress has to offer. She has barely scratched the surface as she is gradually becoming a household name, especially among the young Nigerian population. Perhaps she’ll need to work with more mainstream production companies in the country to attain that next level superstardom, however, she is miles ahead of the 21st century Lekki-esque beauty queens who are only interested in selling their body and beauty without any tangible talent or skillset to give the audience a worthwhile value in exchange for their time.

It is only a matter of time before Montana grabs all the awards at AFRIMA and AMVCA; she just needs that movie script that will stretch her beyond the cocoon of the YouTube platform.
