However, more reports emerged as to why the altercation happened. Mary had raised concerns about the accommodation conditions provided by the production. A viral video of the incident showed the two engaging in a physical fight.
The Nigeria Film Crew Community (NFCC) has released a statement regarding the incident, stating that Courage was arrested after the altercation, while Mary received medical attention.
“The production manager violently hit and strangled the makeup H.O.D. for speaking up against ill and unequal treatment among the crew as shown in the video evidence we received. He has now been arrested while the makeup artist has recieved medical care.”
The NFCC condemned what it described as Courage’s “violent and animalistic behaviour”. It urged filmmakers and producers to blacklist and suspend all work with him for a period of six months while the Nigerian Police Force conducts its investigation. “We also call on relevant authorities to please join their voices with ours to call out and condemn this animalistic behaviour that “Nwa South” has displayed and ensure justice is served for the victim.”
“This level of disregard for human dignity is unacceptable. We stand firmly against all forms of abuse, assault and crew maltreatment. We call on industry stakeholders, all producers, that this Production Manager be blacklisted across all productions,” it added.
The NFCC has called for filmmakers and producers to suspend all work with Courage for a period of six months while the Nigerian Police Force conducts its investigation. The community emphasizes the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful working environment for all crew members.
“While investigations are ongoing with the Nigerian Police Force, we strongly advise industry producers and production companies to suspend any form of engagement with ‘Nwa South’ for a period of six months (6 months).”
“This 6-month ban recommendation is intended as a measure of accountability and a reminder that abusive conduct carries consequences, while reinforcing our collective commitment to maintaining safe and respectful production environments.”
“NFCC expects all stakeholders to uphold this standard and will continue to call for accountability and professionalism across the industry,” the statement ended.
