Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi, best known for his role in the 1996 classic Owo Blow, has emotionally detailed years of financial struggle.
In a recent appearance on actress Biola Adebayo’s talk show Afolabi revealed that dwindling acting opportunities and a failing photography business left him unable to support his family.
He relocated to Badagry hoping to build his own house, a decision that further sidelined his acting career. “I wasn’t ready to beg for food. I would rather do any legitimate job,” he said.

His Nissan Quest developed a faulty shock absorber he could not afford to repair for nearly two years. He eventually sold the car for ₦180,000 and bought a second-hand motorcycle, which he struggled to ride.
He also worked as a commercial minibus (danfo) driver in Lagos, a role that earlier viral videos had brought to public attention.
Overcome with emotion while recalling the hardships his late wife and children endured, Afolabi broke down in tears. Host Biola Adebayo appealed for support, calling for a better vehicle and improved accommodation to help him rebuild.
The revelations have renewed conversations about the welfare of Nollywood veterans who helped build the industry but often face economic vulnerability later in life.
